Finally got mine on Friday. There's definitely sync issues on the first half of the show. The whole production seems a bit mediocre for a Chick Corea video but that's the states for you. The production on Japanese or European concert vids are always stellar. I'm generalizing obviously, but still..

Dave obviously plays amazing on here. He really does push the limits of himself it seems. He's all about pushing himself to the limit of what he can do, and comes real close to that limit which ends up in a place far beyond where most musicians can go. To be able to express on that level in that fashion is such a rarity. All the while making sure the time is rock solid. The feel is there too, most of the time. It gets interrupted by his need to constantly interrupt the groove with his pick of a splash or hi hat phrase at the end of every 4 bars. I'm used to it but still wish he would just shut up, and settle on a nice feeling groove for a bit. He does on the Blue Miles tune a little but that's it mostly.

The soloing on Got a Match is pretty ridiculous. It's interesting watching how he handles the show endurance-wise. They play a lot of notes for a long time and as a result of his approach being getting the most with the least he endures well, being able to take the big guns out even at the 11th hour when most mortals have numb hands (I've even seen Vinnie decline playing "one more" at the end of night at the BP sighting his hands have had enough).

Great to hear your comments, Steve. I only just had a chance to listen to the second half of the show. Gotta agree with you about the soloing in Got a match! Gambale and Dave lay down amazing stuff here. I am still in awe.

Interesting topic you touch upon with syncing issues...Didn't know there's a difference to euro/japanese releases. Either way, the lag on the first half is only very small and the second half is fine. Still a great DVD!

Steve, did you ever hear Dave on that one Steve Khan boot a while back w Anthony Jackson on bass?

He still pulls out some of his typical killer improvisational phrasing riffs, but in general he seems to be in more of a support & groove sideman role, altho SK obv isn't "putting any 'handcuffs'" on him; as opposed to the CCEB gig where he is just his usual, calculatingly-yet-improvisationally, mad-yet-musical blowing self. I have the live at the Montrenx with Weckl Weckl plays great but in my opinion the Chick DVD A very special Concert with Lenny White back in the early eighties is really awesome in my books Lenny White is the drummer and he's fantastic in this concert I hope you guys don't jump on me if I say I enjoyed Lenny and little more than Weckl I'm ready for the Attack lol

I now have mine. Awesome. Oddly, I found "To The Stars" far more accessible in this setting than on the CD, which to be honest I found hard work.

The DTS sound is great. The second half crashes my Sony DVD player half way through CTA, alas. Plays fine on my PC.

I hope that "Chick's people" filmed either the Lincoln Centre NYC, or Friehofer's Saratoga NY 'summer '03 CCEB+ ReU shows [awa CC3Qs w Vince in the "Gadd chair," & the "Spain grand finale" w all musos from each ensemble AWA DW/VC trades] for future DVD...but so far, it doesn't look like it... AFAIK it was only a few shows, even possibly just those 2 or possibly only perhaps 1 other.

Seeing how we only have the GRP Super Live in Concert '88 [w Grusin/Rit/Schur/BFinch/VC/TimL, awa CCEB], & the BRMSC2['89], professionally documenting the 2 giant sca'wy monsta' drumma's together...

Anyone know if that GRP SL-IC has been cut to DVD yet?! I understand there was a coveted VHS out LONG ago since, & it had VC & DW trading [like on the BRMSC2] AW...?
